Free medical bill review
Review your medical bill before you decide what to do next.
A confusing or expensive medical bill does not automatically mean something is wrong. TestMyBill reviews what the bill itself shows, flags possible issues worth a closer look, and suggests a practical next step based on the information available. You see your review before deciding whether to pay for anything.

What they told us
Something is unclear or looks wrong
What we recommended
Billing Error Dispute
The bill has charge-level detail and something specific does not hold up, which is enough to raise it directly.
A suggestion, not a verdict — they can pick a different request before anything is generated.
Everything above is free. The $19 packet adds
- 01Personalized letter (PDF)
- 02Phone script and call checklist
- 03Answers to their pushback
- 04Call log form
- 05Follow-up email template
Real structure, fictional details. This is what a duplicate or math finding looks like once your bill is reviewed.
What does a free medical bill review look for?
The goal is not to declare every unfamiliar or expensive charge an error. It is to separate what the bill clearly shows from what may deserve clarification.
- 01
Clear calculation inconsistencies
We check whether quantities, line-item amounts, subtotals, and totals appear internally consistent based on the bill provided.
- 02
Possible duplicate charges
Repeated services, codes, descriptions, dates, or amounts may deserve a closer look. A repeated charge is not automatically an error, so possible duplicates are labeled accordingly.
- 03
Charges worth clarifying
A service you do not recognize, an unclear description, or an unusual line item may be worth asking the provider to explain before you dispute it.
- 04
Missing detail
If the bill does not contain enough information to evaluate individual charges, the better first step may be to request an itemized bill rather than make an accusation.
- 05
Other inconsistencies visible on the document
TestMyBill may flag discrepancies that are supported by the information shown on the bill, while distinguishing them from issues that require additional records or confirmation.
Not every high medical bill is an error.
That distinction matters. A large balance may reflect a deductible, coinsurance, an insurance decision, a valid provider charge, or something else entirely. TestMyBill is designed to show you what the document supports and avoid turning every surprising charge into an accusation.
- Confirmed math issue
The numbers on the bill do not add up. Verifiable from the bill itself.
- Possible duplicate
The same charge appears more than once. Worth asking them to confirm.
- Benchmark concern
This looks high compared with typical pricing. An observation, not proof.
- Needs documentation
Cannot be confirmed without an itemized bill or records. Worth requesting.
If nothing meaningful stands out, the review should say so.

This is a good place to start if…
- You see a charge that appears twice.
- The math or quantity on a line item does not seem to add up.
- You do not recognize a service.
- Your bill is difficult to understand.
- You are not sure whether you need more detail before disputing something.
- You want to understand what deserves attention before contacting the provider.
If your main problem is a denied or reduced insurance claim or affordability, TestMyBill may suggest a different pathway instead of a billing-error dispute.
What should I have ready?
Start with the most detailed version of the bill you have. If your bill is several pages long, upload all relevant pages so the review has the full context available on the statement.
If the document is too unclear to review, TestMyBill may suggest requesting a more detailed itemized bill first.
What this review cannot determine on its own
A medical bill does not contain every fact that may matter. From the bill alone, TestMyBill generally cannot independently determine:
- whether a service was medically necessary
- whether every medical or billing code was correctly selected
- whether an insurer was legally required to cover a service
- whether a particular price is contractually improper
- whether a provider is legally required to reduce a balance
- whether a dispute or appeal will succeed
When the available information does not support a firm conclusion, the review should say that rather than presenting uncertainty as fact.
Questions before you review your bill
Is the medical bill review really free?
Yes. You can see the findings, confidence labels, and suggested next step before deciding whether to purchase an Action Packet. The $19 charge applies only if you choose to generate the personalized response materials.
Do I need an account?
No. TestMyBill does not require an account or signup to review a bill.
What kinds of bills can I upload?
You can upload common medical billing statements as PDFs or images, including multi-page bills. If a document does not contain enough detail to evaluate individual charges, the review may recommend requesting an itemized bill first.
What if TestMyBill does not find anything wrong?
Then the review tells you that the document does not show a clear issue based on the information available. A high balance by itself is not treated as proof of a billing error.
Does TestMyBill dispute the bill for me?
No. TestMyBill prepares information and, if purchased, personalized documents and call materials for you to review and use yourself. TestMyBill does not contact the provider or insurer on your behalf.
Is TestMyBill legal or medical advice?
No. TestMyBill provides informational and document-preparation assistance. It does not provide legal or medical advice and does not replace a qualified professional when one is needed.
